Temporary closure of NE 29th Street just east of the Northeast Mixmaster set for Oct. 14
DES MOINES, Iowa – Oct. 8, 2026 – The temporary closure of NE 29th Street near the Northeast Mixmaster may cause delays for drivers, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 1 Office.
To pour concrete for the Interstate 80 bridge deck over NE 29th Street, crews will close NE 29th Street from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, weather permitting. The backup date for this project is Thursday, Oct. 15.
Drivers should follow the marked detour route during the closure. The route uses NE 29th Street, NE 46th Avenue, NE 22nd Street, and NE 54th Avenue.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
